In the year April 2006, The Captive Power Division (CPD) has been carved out of Power Project Division to address the Captive Power Market up to 100 MW capacity. Today CPD can address the power need of various industries like Steel, Cement, Textiles, Paper, Pharma, Refinery, Chemical, Petrochemical, Metallurgical etc. for their captive power plants. CPD can build Coal Based Power Plants, Combined Cycle Power Plants, Biomass Power Plants etc.

We are currently executing a 92.2 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant at Valuthur, Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu for Tamil Nadu Electricity Board on an EPC Contract basis slated for commissioning by March 2008.

The salient features of this project are:

• 64 MW (V64.3A) Gas Turbine and Generator
• 30 MW Steam Turbine and Generator
• Triple pressure Heat Recovery Steam Generator
• Reciprocating Gas Booster Compressor
• Air Cooled Condenser
• Radiator Cooler
• Water Treatment Plant including RO Plant
• 110 kV Sub Station
• Gas Conditioning Skid

In March 2007, The Vedanta Group has awarded a Turnkey EPC contract for 1 × 25 MW Coal based Thermal Power Plant for their Alumina Expansion Project at The Madras Aluminum Company Limited, Mettur Dam. This project is conceived with a Pulverised Fuel Coal Fired Boiler and an Extraction cum Condensing Turbine. The major equipment is sourced from reputed Chinese manufacturers.

The above picture is the existing power plant at MALCO. BGR will be adding the new 25 MW power plant adjacent to this.
