Membrane Based Desalination Plants
Abundant availability of sea and brackish water makes for an abundant source of water. A number of seawater desalination plants are coming up all over world for both drinking and industrial applications. The cost of desalination water is projected to reduce by 20% in the next 5 years and by 50% by the year 2020. There are also several concerns on the environmental impact, cost viability, energy intensiveness and brine disposal in desalination projects.
Seawater desalination using reverse osmosis is the least expensive, most environmentally friendly desalination method available today and is increasingly employed to alleviate water shortages. Advancements in membrane technology, have helped make seawater osmosis (SWRO) a viable alternative to traditional thermal method.
In association with Inima, Spain, BGR Energy undertakes Desalination Projects on EPC/BOOT basis. Inima is third largest Desalination Company in the World and has more than 45 years experience and has supplied 37 large size Desalination plants worldwide.
